Monuments of the Disclosed
Monuments of the Disclosed is an augmented reality artwork by Ahmet Öğüt that invites the public to place monuments of whistleblowers, in their environment. This is the first augmented reality artwork ever acquired by the Guggenheim Museum.
In 2022 I was invited by commissioner Artwrld to work with renowned conceptual artist Ahmet Öğüt to execute his vision for this series of nine augmented reality sculptures. It was a fantastic experience to work in service of Ahmet's bold vision on a project with important social impact. This project was right at the intersection of art and technology, and I was able to exercise both my aesthetic and technical creativity. Even though I was fabricating with pixels, some of the limitations and problem-solving involved in making the pieces work in augmented reality were reminiscent of the challenges of creating a physical sculpture, which nicely dovetailed with the theme of the pieces.
